Making Your Car Road Trip Ready

The first day of summer is right around the corner, and it’s almost time for your much-anticipated family vacation! Before you load the car and head out on your road trip, make sure that your vehicle is just as prepared for the journey as you are. You should check several things to make sure you are road trip ready.

Brakes

If you have heard any squealing or other noises from your brakes, be sure to have them checked by a trusted mechanic. The brakes are your car’s most crucial safety feature, so be sure they’re in good working order before hitting the road.

Tires

Check the pressure in each of your tires. Properly balanced tires don’t just prevent uneven wear, but they will also improve your car’s fuel economy. While checking your tire inflation, also take a look at each tire’s tread. If you notice uneven wear, schedule a tire rotation before your trip.

Battery

To ensure that your battery doesn’t suddenly give out, you should have it professionally checked about once a year. Have a battery check done before heading on a trip if it’s been a while since your last one. Make sure that there’s plenty of charge and that all connections are secure and clean.

Belts & Hoses

Look under the hood to see if your belts have cracks or fraying. Check that they are fastened securely without much slack. Make sure that none of your car’s hoses are cracked or leaking.

Fluids & Filters

Check all of your vehicle’s fluid levels. That includes engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid, and possibly power steering fluid. Also, inspect your car’s air and cabin filters to ensure proper airflow to both your engine and your passengers.

While it can seem like a lot to check, it’s essential to make sure that your vehicle is in good working order before making any long trips. If you’re near Seffner, FL, and need some help with those inspections or repairs, make an appointment with Sammy’s Auto. We’ll go over your car from top to bottom to ensure that you and your family can have a safe and fun summer road trip.
